(Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children)
WIC is a Nutrition and Health Education Program funded by the Ohio Department of Health via the United States Department of Agriculture.
WIC services include:
The supplemental foods WIC provides promote good health for pregnant women, women who just had a baby, breastfeeding moms, infants and children up to age five years. The foods are loaded onto a WIC Nutrition Card {WNC} to redeem at participating grocers throughout the state. WIC earns money for our community vendors.
To qualify for WIC:
Jackson County WIC is a walk-in clinic, open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm. In order to best serve participants for certification please visit the office between 8:00am and 11:00am and 12:30pm to 3:30pm.
What to Expect at a Certification Visit
In the comfort of your own home, you can start the paperwork before you come to WIC. Click on the WIC Application Form, download it to your phone, type in the information in the top section of the page, and then email it as an attachment. Then you can click on the Health Assessment Forms that apply to you and your family and email the completed forms to WIC as well. You only need to fill out the first page on the Health Assessment Forms. We look forward to making your WIC appointment as enjoyable and helpful as possible.

- Supplemental foods supplying key nutrients
- Referral to health care providers and community programs
- Height checks, weight checks and iron testing.

To qualify for WIC:
- You must live in Ohio
- Have medical/nutritional risk based on health & diet information assessed by a health professional {HP} at time of certification
- Meet WIC income guidelines which are 185% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines but can be eligible up to 200% of Poverty Income Guidelines if receiving assistance from: Click Here! for current Income Guidelines
- Ohio Works First
- SNAP Food Assistance
- Medicaid Programs

What to Expect at a Certification Visit
- Income/address/IDs are verified
- Parent/Guardian completes a Health History for each qualifying participant which is assessed by the Health Professional {HP}
- HP will take heights & weights of each participant
- Iron testing will be performed.
- Iron levels are checked with a drop of blood via finger prick using the Hemoglobin for children 3 years or younger
- or by using the bloodless Pronto machine for older children and women
- Program participants need to visit the WIC office every 3 months to load their WIC Nutrition Card {WNC} with new food benefits
- Certification visits are done every 6 months
- At these visits, clients have the opportunity for weight/iron checks and to speak with a Health Professional. Visits with HP aren't limited; clients can come in more often than quarterly if needed.
